Orlando, FL - Florida Atlantic University's men's soccer team fell to Marshall University 2-1 in double overtime in the UCF/adidas Kickoff Classic on Sunday afternoon. The Owls held a 1-0 lead with less than three minutes remaining but the Thundering Herd scored off of a rebounded shot and never looked back. Bjorn Totland scored his first goal of the season as the Owls record fell to 1-1.

Marshall (2-2) got off to a slow start, still fatigued from the team's Friday night's double overtime win over Central Florida. The Owls outshot them6-3 in the first half. Florida Atlantic came alive in the second half as Bjorn Totland scored in the 54th minute. The senior fired a free kick from 45-yards to the top right corner of the net, past the keeper for the 1-0 lead.

FAU could not hold on though as Marshall tied the score at 87:31 when Jonathon Buxton scored off a rebound. The Thundering Herd finished off the Owls in the final minute of double overtime when Ryan Kingsley misplayed a ball and Karim Boukhemis scored on a break-away.

Florida Atlantic outshot Marshall 11-8 for the match and led in corner kicks 9-1. Anders Granstad made 2 saves. Marshall now holds a 2-0 series lead over FAU. The two teams last met in 1994 with Marshall winning 3-0.

The Owls return home on Friday, September 17 to play Trevecca Nazarene at 7:30 pm. This will be the first meeting between the two teams.
