BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team earned their first victory of the season, defeating the University of Massachusetts Lowell 3-1 on Sunday.
Junior Deniz Bozkurt had the first goal of the match assisted by Ryan Price in the 35th minute. One minute later, Price, assisted by Ronald Garcia, gained possession of the ball and beat UMass-Lowell's keeper with a low shot to the left side of the net.
In the final five minutes of the first half, the River Hawks beat past FAU keeper Theo Jamilloux, bringing the score to 2-1.
Midfielder Daniel Montoya solidified the Owls' lead in the 70th minute, receiving a pass behind the defense to beat the River Hawks' keeper. Ramin Rahemi assisted the goal that brought the final score to 3-1.
Jamilloux faced 11 shots by UMass-Lowell and was credited with three saves. FAU recorded 12 shots against the opposing goalkeeper.
Florida Atlantic will host Florida Gulf Coast University on Wednesday, September 11 at 7 p.m. before taking on conference opponent FIU on Saturday, September 14 at 7 p.m. Both matches will take place at the FAU Soccer Stadium.
