BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic men's soccer team hosted the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, of the North American Soccer League, on Saturday for their official spring game. The Strikers took a 3-0 victory over the Owls.
Midfielder Darnell King gave the Strikers an early lead with the first goal of the game. King faced some of his former teammates for the matchup as an alumnus of Florida Atlantic. He played four seasons with the Owls and was signed by the Strikers in 2012.
After the Strikers scored their second goal, sophomore Deniz Bozkurt made the first shot for FAU at the 33rd minute but was unable to pass the Strikers' goalie. The shot was the first of two made by the Owls. Midfielder Daniel Mendes made the second goal attempt at the 46th minute, shooting wide.
The Strikers made their third goal of the game at the 39th minute of play. Florida Atlantic fell to the Strikers 3-0 after 90-minutes of play. Florida Atlantic's goal keeper, redshirt junior Scott Power, made nine saves throughout the game.
FAU will play their last game of their spring schedule on March 29, when they host rival FIU at 7 p.m. at the FAU Soccer Stadium. The men's soccer team will start their regular season in the fall.
