BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University rising junior golfer Derron Peyton is competing in the USGA's U.S. Amateur Championship in Georgia this week.
Last year, Peyton led regular FAU golfers with an average of 74.15 per round, including two career-low rounds of 68 at the Harmony Golf Preserve Intercollegiate, earning medalist and leading the Owls to a third-place finish.
Peyton also earned top-six finishes at the Stetson University Invitational, the University of Hartford Invitational, the Don Benbow Invitational and the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular.
The U.S. Amateur Championship hosts the nation's top amateur golfers and is being held at the Atlanta Athletic Club in John's Creek, Ga.
Peyton teed off on Monday with two other Americans, Taylor Moore and Colton Buege, at the River Course.
After two rounds, the field will be cut to a round of 64 on Wednesday and continue to be slimmed down until the championship match on Sunday, Aug. 17.
