Four FAU Golfers Qualify for Florida Amateur Match Play Championships

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University golfers Richard Donegan, Alex Gates, Derron Peyton and Airik Medinis qualified to compete in the 23rd Florida Amateur Match Play Championships. The four-day tournament will take place August 1-4 at Timuquana Country Club in Jacksonville, Florida.

More than 300 amateur golfers attempted to qualify, with only the top 64 being selected. Thursday marks the first round, which will consist of 18 holes of individual stroke play to determine the seeds for the round of 64 match play set to begin on Friday.

Gates is scheduled to tee off first, from hole #1, with a 9:00 am tee time. Peyton, Medinis and Donegan will tee off hole #10 at 9:10 am, 9:20 am and 9:40 am, respectively.

The Amateur Match Play Championships was founded in 1923 as a Florida State Golf Association event that employs golf's original match play format. Timuquana Country Club is one of Florida's oldest and most historic clubs and has hosted numerous FSGA Championships.
