Owsley Welcomes the Participating Teams

BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's men's golf team welcomed the fifteen participating universities for the 2013 Spring Break Championship at the tournament's opening ceremony this afternoon at the Fountains Country Club in Lake Worth, Florida. Head coach Angelo Sands and Director of Athletics Pat Chun welcomed the teams and their coaches.

The three round tournament will begin on Friday, March 29 with the first round tee times starting at 8:30 a.m. Groups will tee off at nine minute intervals on the north course. The second and third rounds will take place on Saturday, March 30 at 8:30 a.m. and Sunday, March 31 at 8:00 a.m.

The opening ceremony included an introduction, by ESPN 760's Ken LaVicka, of the teams, consisting of 96 participants, and the tournament sponsors. Sands and Chun then honored each of the sponsors for their support.

Children from the Slomin Family Center, a sponsor of the tournament, spoke the Pledge of Allegiance and Cory Mabalot of FAU's music department sang the national anthem.

The ceremony was followed by teams participating in a shot gun practice.

While there are sixteen universities competing,Florida Atlantic and Lafayette will each have an "A" and "B" team making the total team count 18. Six individuals will also play in the tournament.
