Sibley and Messer Earn Student-Athlete of the Week Honors

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University's Caleb Sibley of men's golf and Samantha Messer of softball have earned Student-Athlete of the Week honors.

Sibley recorded his second collegiate win on Tuesday, March 11 at the Benbow Invitational hosted by Butler University in Jacksonville, Fla. The freshman carded rounds of 71 and 70 to finish as the individual medalist for the tournament. Sibley's first victory was at FAU's dual match against Hartford on Feb. 26 when the native of Kissimmee, Fla. shot his collegiate low of 66 strokes. Sibley is averaging 76 strokes per round for the six tournaments he has competed in this season. Men's golf will host the FAU Slomin Autism Championship beginning on Friday, March 28.

Messer continued her outstanding junior season with a pair of dominant performances this week. On Wednesday, March 12 she threw a complete game four-hitter in a win over Yale, striking out six and not allowing an earned run. On Saturday, March 15 she threw another complete game, this one nine innings, in a 3-1 win over UAB. For the week, she threw 16.0 innings, giving up just nine hits, none for extra bases, allowing only one earned run and striking out 10 with a 0.44 ERA. Softball hosts the University of Connecticut on Thursday, March 20 at 6 p.m.
