BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's student-athletes, Eszter Bucz and Richard Donegan, both made first-time achievements this week putting themselves on the national stage and earning them FAU's Student-Athlete of the Week Award. Bucz qualified for the NCAA D1 Swimming and Diving Championships while Donegan was honored as the Sun Belt Conference's Golfer of the Month.
The National Collegiate Athletic Association announced that Bucz had qualified for the 2013 NCAA Division 1 Women's Swimming and Diving Championship in the 200 IM and 200 breast. The senior swimmer has been close to qualifying all four years and posted qualifying times at the Sun Belt Championship last week.
Bucz will spend the next week practicing with Florida Atlantic's men's swimming team before traveling to Indiana University on March 21 to compete at the IU Natatorium for the NCAA title.
After eighteen rounds of play this season, Donegan is the Owls' leading scorer with a total 1,299 strokes and a scoring average of 72.17. The golfer was honored with the Sun Belt Golfer of the Month award on the same day that he took first-place at the Harmony Golf Preserve Intercollegiate.
Donegan has now picked up his second first-place finish this season after carding 215 (-1) at the Harmony Golf Preserve Intercollegiate. The golfer tied for second on day-one, then shot 71 (-1) on the second day of play to move into first. Donegan maintained that lead during the third and final round and led FAU to a third-place team finish.
Florida Atlantic is currently competing in Butler University's Benbow Invitational and will finish the final round tomorrow in Jacksonville, Florida.
