DeLand, FL - Paced by Torstein Naevestad's opening round one-under par 71, Florida Atlantic University's men's golf team sits in first place at the Stetson Intercollegiate at Victoria Hills Golf Course. The Owls fired a tournament low team round of 291 in the morning and lead by six-strokes heading into the final day. Naevestad is tied for third individually while both Marco Morales and Ben Gardner finished in the top-15.
For the third time in four tournaments, Naevestad started the tournament even par or better. He shot a second round 74 and trails Jimmy Lytle from Elon University and Kyle Spahr from Campbell University by one-stroke for the lead.
Morales fired rounds of 74 and 72 on the 6,989-yard, par 72 course, finishing tied for sixth and two-strokes off the lead. In his last three tournaments, Morales has shot at least one round of par or better. Playing in only his second tournament of the fall, Gardner shot a first-round 72, before cooling off in the second-round with a 74, tying for 13th individually. Tommy Suri is tied for 23rd after shooting rounds of 74 and 77, but trails by only seven-strokes while Michael Berger shot consecutive 77s to finish tied for 31st, respectively.
The Owls built a seven stroke lead after the first round but gave up a stroke after shooting 299 in the second round. Elon (596) is in second followed by Rollins College (597), Behune-Cookman College (598) and Campbell University (598). Atlantic Sun schools Jacksonville (599), Belmont (609) and host Stetson University (632) are sixth, eighth and 13th, respectively.
