DELAND, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men’s golf team finished third at the 2013 Stetson Invitational on Tuesday at the par-72, 7,082-yard Victoria Hills Golf Club with a 54-hole total of 48-over 912.
Senior Airik Medinis led the Owls with an eight-over total of 224. The Fort Myers, Fla. native shot three-over 75 in Tuesday’s final round to improve his finish from a fourth place tie to third place. This marks Medinis’ best collegiate finish. He recorded his previous tournament best at Stetson’s Hatter Invitational last season when he tied for eighth.
Sophomore Derron Peyton shot a six-over 78 on Tuesday to finish sixth at 10-over 226. Peyton had tied for second after carding rounds of 75 and 73 on opening day. Payton Olsen finished behind Peyton shooting five-over 77 in the final round for 13th place at 16-over-par 232. Olsen shot rounds of 76 and 79 on the first day of tournament play, tying for 19th going into the final.
Senior Alex Gates shot four-over 76 and improved his 22nd place finish from day one to tie for 14th with a 17-over 233 total. Pablo Gerboles-Parrilla withdrew in the final round. Junior Morgan Hill shot 83 in the final as an individual and tied for 20th at 19-over 235.
The Owls produced rounds of 302 (+14), 304 (+16) and 306 (+18) to conclude their fall schedule. Bethune-Cookman University captured the tournament title with 24-over 888 while Stetson University was second at 43-over 907. Florida A&M University and Savannah State University rounded out the tournament’s finishers in fourth and fifth-place, respectively.
