Charleston, SC - Florida Atlantic University's Torstein Nevestad and Joel Gibbons both finished in the top three as the men's golf team finished tied for fourth place at the Charleston Southern Fall Invitational at Coosaw Creek Country Club. Torstein and Gibbons recorded their highest finish of the fall season.
Nevestad finished in second place individually after shooting an even-par 71 on the second day of play. The freshman from Oslo, Norway concluded the tournament with a two-under par 139. Gibbons, whose lowest previous round was 71, fired a second-round one-under par 70 to finish tied for third. Anibal Ochoa improved one stroke to finish with a two day score of 151 while Michael Cleary and Ashton Samaroo finished with two-day scores of 161 and 163, respectively.
The Owls shot a team second round of 298 to tie with fellow Atlantic Sun opponent Mercer for fourth out of 15 teams with a two-day score of 586. The Citadel (577) inched out host Charleston Southern (582) for the title, with Davidson College (585) finishing third on the 6,518-yard, par 71 course.
Florida Atlantic will return to action in its final tournament of the fall season when it takes part in the Stetson Intercollegiate November 9-11 in Deland, FL.
