Charleston, SC - Florida Atlantic University's men's golf team concluded play in the first round of the Charleston Southern Fall Invitational at Coosaw Creek Country Club in third place after shooting a 288 on the 6,518-yard par 71 course. Freshman Torstein Nevestad is tied for third individually while Joel Gibbons and Mike Cleary also finished in the top 17.
Torstein fired a collegiate best first round three-under par 68, after shooting a front nine score of 33 and a back nine of 35. He trails the leader by only one stroke. Gibbons finished even par, tying his lowest round of the season, and Cleary shot a two-over par 73 in his first tournament of the fall. Anibal Ochoa shot a first-round 76 while Ashton Samaroo shot an 81 in his first collegiate tournament.
The Owls fired their lowest round of the fall season and trail the leader, host CSU, by only four strokes and The Citadel (285) by three. Davidson College (292), Samford (292) and Tennessee State (296) round out the top five. Florida Atlantic also shot the lowest round among Atlantic Sun schools, ahead of Stetson (297), Mercer (298) and Jacksonville (304).
