MIROMAR LAKES, Fla. – After playing 36 holes and shooting 583 on the first day of competition at the Cobra-PUMA Invitational, Florida Atlantic University’s men’s golf team is in second place going into the final round.
The 2013 Cobra-PUMA Invitational, hosted by Xavier University, has brought together thirteen teams to the Par 72, 7,390 yard Miromar Lakes Golf Club. Competitors include Arkansas State, Bethune-Cookman, Dayton, FGCU, Georgetown, Northern Kentucky, Ohio, Savannah State, St. John’s, St. Joseph’s and Stetson.
The Owls’ top finisher for the day was freshman Connor O’Rourke, who tied for fifth after carding 71 in the first round but finished the day tied for seventh after carding 72 in the second round.
Pablo Gerboles-Parrilla followed O’Rourke tying for 11th. Gerboles-Parrilla improved his finish from a 21st place tie after the first round shooting 71 in the second. Senior Alex Gates collected rounds of 75 and 72 to tie for 22nd going into the final round.
Derron Peyton and Airik Medinis rounded out FAU’s scoring, tying with six other competitors for 36th place. Both Peyton and Medinis carded rounds of 73 and 77 in the first and second rounds, respectively. Payton Olsen competed as an individual, tying for 55th with a first day total of 154.
FAU will play the final 18 holes of Xavier University’s Cobra-PUMA Invitational on Monday, Oct. 28.
