The Florida Atlantic University men’s golf team finished 4th after three rounds of play in the 2015 Homewood/Hilton Garden Airport & FGCU Classic. Florida won the 11-team tournament with a final score of 867.
Junior Cody Christensen was the Owls’ top finisher, tying for 10th place after shooting a 74 in round one, 74 in round two, and 72 in the final round for a total of 220. Freshman Jackson Shoenfelt was FAU’s next finisher, tying for 18th place carding rounds of 75, 73, and 77, respectively.
Pablo Gerboles-Parrilla was close behind Shoenfelt, completing the tournament tied for 22nd. The senior shot rounds of 76, 75, and 75. After finishing the first day in 35th, the freshman Yuki Fujii maintained his composure and was able to jump up one spot in the rankings to 34th carding five-over 77 in the third round, for a total of 232.
Rounding out FAU's competitors was senior Derron Peyton and junior Caleb Sibley finishing the tournament tied for 51nd and 64th place, respectively. Peyton recorded a 10-over 82 in the final round to finish with a total of 240. Sibley was able to recover from a rough second round, and shoot a seven-over 79 to finish the tournament with a total of 244.
The team will begin the spring season at The Legacy Intercollegiate on Monday, Feb 29 in Lake Mary, Fla.
