MISSOURI CITY, TEXAS - Three top 10 finishers gave the Florida Atlantic men's golf team second place at the HBU Men's Intercollegiate.
Derron Peyton was the team's low man, finishing sixth outright with after an even-par 71 and a three-round total of 214. One stroke behind him was Clinton Wilhelm, who was the leader after round two, but shot a 77 on Tuesday to drop into a tie for seventh. Shooting FAU's best final round was Richard Donegan, whose 66 was just one stroke off of tying the course record. He finished at 217, in a tie for 10th.
At 871, the Owls took second place by one stroke over Sam Houston State, the team they were tied with after each round on Monday. ULM was just one stroke behind them, in fourth place. Leading wire-to-wire and winning the team competition was the tournament hosts, Houston Baptist, at 838 (14-under par). HBU also had the individual winner, Andy Ariens, whose 65 tied the course record on Tuesday (along with two others), and finished at 8-under 213.
The Owls are off, competition-wise, this upcoming weekend. They next travel again for a two-day tournament November 5-6, the Holiday Inn Express/Hatter Invitational. Stetson University hosts the event, held at the Victoria Hills Golf Club in DeLand, Fla.
