Greenville, NC - Florida Atlantic University's men's golf team shot consecutive rounds of 294 on the first day of the East Carolina Pirate Fall Intercollegiate at Bradford Creek Golf Course to finish tied for fourth place out of 18 teams. Three Owls finished in the top 20 on the 7,033-yard, par 72 course.
Freshman Ben Gardner, from Boca Raton, FL, shot a two-under par 70 in the first round but shot a 76 in the second round to finish two-over par and tied for 18th place. Freshman Torstein Nevestad shot an opening round 74 before finishing the second round even par to finish tied for 18th place while Joel Gibbons fired a first round 74 and followed it up by shooting one-under par to finish tied for 18th place. Tommy Suri shot consecutive rounds of 75 while Michael Himebaugh has a two-round total of 153.
FAU trails Elon University by 14 and is tied with Tennessee Chattanooga (588) and Gardner-Webb (588) for fourth overall. Host East Carolina (582) and High Point University (585) round out the top five.
Florida Atlantic concludes play in the ECU Pirate Fall Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
