Howie-in-the-Hills, FL - The men's golf team at Florida Atlantic University combined to shoot a second-round 298 at the Mission Inn Collegiate Classic Saturday afternoon. The score was good enough to keep the Owls in fourth place out of 17 schools. Torstein Nevestad leads the team for the tournament with at two-day total 144. Nevestad, currently tied for fifth overall, shot a 75 Saturday and is just two shots over par for the tournament, and four shots behind leader Matthew Bliss from Bethune-Cookman.
Anibal Ochoa turned in the lowest score of the day for FAU shooting a one-over 72. Ochoa's efforts were good enough to move up a spot from 16 to 15 on the leader board.
Meanwhile, sophomore Michael Himebaugh finished the day shooting 73, Joel Gibbons came in at 78, and Ben Gardner shot a 79.
The Owls are 11 shots back of leader Old Dominion University heading into the final round Sunday. The Owls own a two-day score of 588 (290, 298), while Winthrop and Bethune-Cookman (586) rest two shots ahead, tied for second. Gardner-Webb fell three shots back of FAU (591).
