Howey-in-the-Hills, FL - Paced by Torstein Naevestad's final round 72, Florida Atlantic University's men's golf team finished eighth out of 20 teams at the Mission Inn Collegiate Classic at El Campeon Golf Course. The team improved one-stroke from the previous day and finished ahead of three Atlantic Sun Conference opponents.
Naevestad finished with a three-day 217, a 72.3 scoring average, on the 6,814-yard, par 71 course. Tommy Suri fired a 10-over par 223 while Marco Morales shot a 14-over par 227. Joong Jo fired rounds of 75-75-78 for a 15-over par 228 in his first career tournament. Cris Andersen finished with a three-day 250, respectively.
For the third consecutive day, the Owls were stuck in eighth place. Host Winthrop University took first overall with a 17-over par 869. Charleston Southern (872), Elon University (872), Illinois State (874) and the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga (877) round out the top five. FAU finished ahead of A-Sun opponents Gardner-Webb (905), Lipscomb (906) and Stetson (944).
Florida Atlantic returns to action Monday, October 18, at the Pirate Fall Intercollegiate hosted by East Carolina in Greenville, N.C.
