FORT MYERS, FL - The Florida Atlantic University men's golf team traveled to Fort Myers this weekend to compete in the Xavier Invitational at the Miromar Country Club. The Owls shot of total of 896 (303,302, 291) to take a 10th place finish out of 12 teams in their first tournament of the year.
Florida Gulf Coast captured first place honors with a three round total of 853, while Eastern Kentucky (854), Loyola University of Maryland (863), Xavier (863) and Ball State (866) rounded out the top five finishes of the weekend.
Senior Michael Baskovich led the Owls on the par 72 course. Baskovich ended the weekend three above par with a 219 cumulative score. He had a two-under-par 70 in Monday's final round to finish in 23rd place overall. Justin Thompson carded a 226 (77, 74, 75), and Clint Wilhelm finished with an 11 above par score of 227 (76, 74, 77). Casey Matthews finished in 44th place with a 228 (75, 80, 73) while Andrew Mangini rounded out the scores for FAU in his first collegiate tournament shooting a 233 (77, 83, 73).
The FAU men's golf team will next compete at the Northwestern Invitational in Chicago, Ill. The tournament will be held Oct.16-17 at the Evanston Country Club.
