Gerboles-Parrilla Tied For Second After Opening Round of SBC Championships

MUSCLE SHOALS, AL –- Freshman Pablo Gerboles-Parrilla is tied for second place, just two strokes behind the first-round leader, after day one of the 2012 Sun Belt Conference Championships.

Gerboles-Parrilla’s 1-over-par 72 matched his season-low round and puts him behind only Ty Spinella of North Texas. His scorecard included birdies on the first hole he played, #10, as well as on the last two holes of his round, #8 and #9.

North Texas also shares the lead atop the team standings, with Middle Tennessee State, at 10-over-par 298. Only 11 strokes separate third place (South Alabama, 306) and eighth (Troy, 317), with the Owls checking in at seventh, at a team total of 316.

Fellow freshman Bradford Kidd has the next lowest score for FAU, carding 15 pars in his round of 77. He is tied for 16th place, just two strokes out of the top 10.

Clinton Wilhelm and Justin Thompson each came in with first round 83’s to round out the FAU scoring. Michael Baskovich shot a 90 on Monday.

Second round play continues Tuesday, with live scoring at www.golfstat.com. The FAU golfers are part of the last five groups to tee off on hole #10, with Baskovich the first to go, at 8:40 a.m., followed by Wilhelm (8:49), Thompson (8:58), Kidd (9:07) and Gerboles-Parrilla (9:16).
