Buies Creek, NC - Florida Atlantic University's men's golf team took eighth overall at the Atlantic Sun Men's Golf Championship on Wednesday afternoon. Freshman Torstein Nevestad tied for 13th place for his sixth top-15 finish of the season.
Nevestad shot a third round 74 to finish with a three-day total of 216 in his first A-Sun Tournament. The Oslo, Norway native finished with an even par, 72 scoring average for the tournament. Fellow freshman Ben Gardner shot one-over par on the final day to finish with a three-day score of 223. Michael Himebaugh had another steady day with his second consecutive round of 75 while Anibal Ochoa improved one-stroke from Tuesday to fire a third-round 78. Cris Andersen finished with a three-day score of 242, respectively. Four out of the five golfers were participating in their first A-Sun tournament.
Florida Atlantic shot its second lowest round of the tournament, 300, and finished second among the Florida schools participating. UCF (845) took first place with Georgia State University (851), host Campbell University (853), Troy State (862) and Gardner-Webb (868) rounding out the top-five. Jacksonville (901) and Stetson (906) finished 10th and 11th.
UCF receives A-Sun's automatic bid to the NCAA Regional.
