Buies Creek, NC - Florida Atlantic University's men's golf team opened the Atlantic Sun Men's Golf Championship hosted by Campbell University on Monday afternoon with a round of 301 to finish in ninth place. Torstein Nevestad is tied for 16th individually after firing an opening round 73 at Keith Hills golf club.

Nevestad shot a front nine 37 before returning to the club house one-over par on the par 72 course. Michael Himebaugh shot six strokes below his season average, firing an opening round 73 to finish tied for 23rd. Anibal Ochoa, who attended Campbell his freshman year, finished the first day three-over par. Ben Gardner and Cris Andersen fired rounds of 79 and 80, respectively. All five golfers shot even par on the back nine.

The Owls trail the leader, UCF, by 20-strokes while Georgia State (284), Campbell (284) and Belmont (288) are the only other schools at even par or less. Gardner-Webb (295) is fifth.

Florida Atlantic continues play in the A-Sun tournament on Tuesday, April 20.
