Two Freshmen Are Team Leaders For Men's Golf in Final Tuneup

JUPITER, FL – Led by two freshmen, the Florida Atlantic men’s golf team edged Marquette by five strokes on Saturday at the Abacoa Golf Club, in their final competition before the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

First-year players Lawrence Hoch and Bradford Kidd each shot an even-par 72 to tie Marquette’s Adam Chester for the low score of the day. Senior co-captains Michael Baskovich and Justin Thompson rounded out the FAU scoring with a 77 and 78, respectively, for a team total of 299, to Marquette’s 304.

The teams each played six golfers for four scores. Pablo Gerboles-Parrilla shot a 80 and Clinton Wilhelm an 82 as far as scores counting towards the team. Owls playing as individuals on Saturday were Frank Berzanskis (76), Andrew Mangini (79), Alex Gates (84) and Stephen McPoyle (93).

The 2012 SBC Tournament begins on Monday, April 23, in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. The men will play on the Fighting Joe Course at the Cypress Lakes Golf and Country Club, part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.
