Men's Golf Finishes Opening Round of Slomin Championship

Round 1 Scores

LAKE WORTH, Fla. – The men’s golf team finished their opening round of the FAU Slomin Autism Championship on Friday, March 28 at the Fountains Country Club. The Owls’ A team finished the first round in 10th-place with 307 strokes, while the B team finished in 13th-place with 319.

FAU’s A team was led by Airik Medinis and Caleb Sibley. The pair tied for 33rd-place with 76 strokes. Sibley led FAU in par 5 scoring and shot even par on 12 holes. Derron Peyton followed tying for 44th with 77 strokes. Peyton led FAU in pars, recording even par on 15 holes in the first round. Freshman Connor O’Rourke tied for 51st shooting 78. To round out the A team, Blake Lyle shot 83 to tie for 73rd.

The Owls’ B team leader, Payton Olsen tied with the A team’s Medinis and Sibley for 33rd with an opening round of 76 strokes. Team captain Alex Gates tied with Peyton for 44th recording 77 strokes and led the Owls in par 4 scoring. Joseph Arazi finished the day tied for 66th shooting 81 and led FAU in par 3 scoring. Dan Cavanaugh rounded out the B team with 85 strokes for a 78th-place tie.

Georgia Southern’s team finished round one in first-place shooting 278. The tournament’s returning champions, the UCF Knights, who are ranked seventh in the nation, carded 285 for second-place. The second round will take place on Saturday, March 29 with tee times scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. For live stats click HERE
