FAU Men's Golf Jumps Three Spots In Final Day of Spring Break Championship

LAKE WORTH, FL - The Florida Atlantic men's golfers had their best score of the weekend, improving three team slots during the final round of the 2012 FAU Spring Break Championship at the Fountains Country Club.

While Clinton Wilhelm would be the top Owls' finisher at 5-over-par 218 (tied for 30th among individuals), his final day 76 did not count towards the team standings. Justin Thompson had the team's best Sunday round, at a 2-under 69, followed by Lawrence Hoch and Michael Baskovich each with 1-over 72 rounds, and Bradford Kidd at a 2-over 73.

Hoch finished second on the team and tied for 40th overall with a total score of 220. Thompson ended up with a 222, Baskovich a 223, and Kidd a 224. The team finished 10th overall at 876, moving up from 13th, where they were after Saturday.

The top Owl playing as an individual was Frank Berzanskis at 222. Alex Gates and Pablo Gerboles-Parrilla each ended at 225, Andrew Mangini finished at 228 and Stephen McPoyle had a 266.

Florida State not only won the team competition by 19 strokes (829, 23-under-par), they also had the three lowest individuals in the event. Brooks Koepka broke the Fountains north course amateur round record on Sunday, with an 8-under 63. Overall, he shot a 14-under 199. His teammates in second and third were Wesley Graham (5-under 208) and Doug Letson (4-under 209), respectively.

The Owls will next play on April 14 in a one-day event against Marquette, at the Abacoa Golf Club in Jupiter.
