Citrus Springs, FL - Florida Atlantic University's Torstein Nevestad finished second individually while the men's golf team finished 15th overall Sunday at the El Diablo Intercollegiate hosted by Marshall University at the El Diablo Golf and Country Club. Nevestad finished in the top-10 for the third time this year.
The freshman from Oslo, Norway fired a third-round 76 to finish the tournament with a three-round score of 221 on the 7,045-yard, par 72 course. Fellow freshmen Tommy Suri and Ben Gardner shot final rounds of 79 and 81, respectively. Anibal Ochoa matched his score from the second round while Michael Himebaugh shot a final round 82, his best of the tournament.
Florida Atlantic finished with a three-round score of 941, 51-strokes behind winner Eastern Kentucky. The University of South Florida (902), Wichita State (902), Ball State University (917) and Winthrop University (920) round out the top-five. The Owls managed to shoot ten-strokes better than fellow Atlantic Sun Conference member Gardner-Webb.
FAU returns to action Monday, April 5 at the Belmont Invitational in Nashville, TN.
