Hoch Low Scorer For Ninth-Place Owls After First Day in Orlando

ORLANDO, FL - In their final tuneup before hosting this weekend's annual FAU Spring Break Championship, the men's golf team is tied for ninth place at the UCF Rio Pinar Invitational.

After two rounds played Monday at the par-72 Rio Pinar Country Club, the Owls were led by Lawrence Hoch. The freshman shot a 2-under-par 70 during his second 18 holes to finish at 146, tying him for 24th overall. Michael Baskovich is next for FAU, shooting 74-74 to tie for 34th overall at 148.

Pablo Gerboles-Parrilla and Justin Thompson each shot a 150, followed by Stephen McPoyle, playing as an individual, at 152. Clinton Wilhelm totalled a 156.

The team's total of 594 puts them only 12 strokes behind fourth-place Northern Illinois. The overall team leader is Florida Gulf Coast, at 563. FGCU also has the individual low scorer, Alex Medinis, who shot a 7-under total of 137.

The invitational concludes on Tuesday.
