Sibley's win makes him FAU's second consecutive individual medalist

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- Freshman Caleb Sibley carded rounds of 71 and 70 to claim victory at the 2014 Benbow Invitational hosted by Butler University at Jacksonville Beach Golf Club. The two-day tournament took place on March 10-11. Sibley’s win makes him FAU’s second consecutive individual medalist with Derron Peyton winning the Harmony Golf Preserve Intercollegiate on March 3-5.
Airik Medinis and Derron Peyton finished the tournament in a four-way tie for fifth place. Both Medinis and Peyton shot 75 and 71 in the first and second round, respectively, for a tournament total of 146 strokes. Freshman Connor O’Rourke followed carding rounds of 75 and 76 for 151 strokes. Payton Olsen rounded out FAU’s team carding 164 over the two rounds of play. Freshman Blake Lyle played as an individual, recording rounds of 77 and 79 for 156 strokes.
“We went to Jacksonville with a very young team, including four freshmen, one sophomore and one junior, and one of our freshman was the individual winner. FAU men’s golf has a bright future” said head coach Angelo Sands.
FAU’s team finished second to Evansville who won with a team score of 581. The Owls recorded rounds of 296 and 288, coming in second by just three strokes. FAU will travel to Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. for the 2014 Mission Inn Spring Spectacular on Saturday, March 15 and Sunday, March 16.
