BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University freshman Richard Donegan has been named Sun Belt Conference Men's Golfer of the Month, announced the conference today.
Donegan's honor marks the first honor of his collegiate career. To cap his Wednesday, he also took first-place today at the Harmony Golf Preserve Intercollegiate, in Melbourne, FL.
After eighteen rounds of play this season, Donegan is the Owls' leading scorer with a total 1,299 strokes and a scoring average of 72.17. He carded 66 during his lowest round of play this season, at the Rice Intercollegiate in February where he captured his first collegiate tournament victory. Donegan placed first at Rice with a three-round 70 average, scoring a total 210 (-6) and assisting the team to a second-place finish against fourteen teams.
Donegan tied for fifth in the Gary Freeman BCU Spring Invitational with a total 224 (+8). He scored an average 74.67 across three rounds and his score was a key component to Florida Atlantic's first-place finish. Donegan has now picked up his second win of the season after carding 215 (-1) at the Harmony Golf Preserve Intercollegiate. The golfer tied for second on day-one, then shot 71 (-1) on the second day of play to move into first. Donegan maintained that lead during the third and final round and led FAU to a third-place team finish.
Donegan will travel with the Florida Atlantic team to Jacksonville on Monday, March 11, to compete in Butler University's two-day Benbow Invitational.
