Tampa, FL - Florida Atlantic University's men's golf shot a final round 314 to finish ninth out of 14 teams at the Dick Wittcoff/USF Invitational on the University of South Florida golf course. Freshmen Torstein Nevestad and Ben Gardner led the Owls, finishing tied for 23rd and 26th on the 6,830-yard, par 71 course.
Nevestad rebounded from a second-round 79 to shoot a final round 75. He has led the Owls in every tournament this season. Gardner fired a third-round 78 for his second career top-26 finish, while Tommy Suri finished with a career low three-round score of 229. Anibal Ochoa and Michael Cleary finished with scores of 231 and 239, respectively. Cris Andersen, playing unattached, shot a final round of 85.
The Owls dropped three spots from the previous day to finish with a three-day total of 909. Jacksonville State finished first with a score of 878 while Florida Southern College (889), Middle Tennessee State (890), Florida Gulf Coast University (892) and host USF (896) round out the top five.
Florida Atlantic returns to action Saturday, March 13, when they travel to Ocala, FL to participate in the Big Red Classic.
