ORMOND BEACH, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University's men's golf team finished in first place this afternoon after the second and final round of Bethune Cookman University's Gary Freeman Invitational. After competing against eleven other schools in the two-day tournament, Florida Atlantic finished with a total score of 19-over-par 595.
Head Coach Angelo Sands led six members of the men's golf team in the tournament, all of whom ended up on the top-20 players list. Alex Gates maintained his second place finish from round one, with a score of 70 in round two, to finish with even par 144. Lawrence Hoch and Clinton Wilhelm tied for fourth with 4-over-par 148.
Freshman Richard Donegan, Florida Atlantic's leading scorer this season, tied for ninth place with a total score of 6-over-par 150 after scoring 74 in the second round. Airik Medinis tied for 15th with 10-over-par 154 and Derron Peyton improved from 19th to 18th place with 11-over-par 155.
The men's golf team will travel to Melbourne, Florida in two weeks for the three-day Harmony Preserve Intercollegiate at Harmony Golf Preserve on March 4-6.
