PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla.- The Florida Atlantic University men’s golf team competed at the Sea Best Invitational at TPC Sawgrass on the par 72 THE PLAYERS Stadium Course. Connor O’Rourke carded FAU’s top finish with a three-round total of 226 for a 16th-place tie.
The freshman shot rounds of 71 and 78 on the first day of play to tie for 11th. In the final round he shot 77. Derron Peyton followed O’Rourke with FAU’s next best finish. Peyton shot a round of 76 on the final day of play for a total of 235, good for 51st-place. On day one, Peyton carded rounds of 83 and 76 for a 54th-place tie.
Caleb Sibley advanced from a tie for 66th-place on day one to a tie for 62nd with a final round of 78 strokes. Sibley’s total for the tournament was 242. Senior Airik Medinis finished the first day of the tournament in 65th with rounds of 84 and 79 for a total of 163. On the second day, Medinis shot a round of 84 for a tournament total of 247, good for a 70th-place tie.
FAU’s team finished in 15th-place overall. The tournament brought together teams from Cal Poly, East Carolina, East Tennessee State, the University of Florida, Florida Gulf Coast,
Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, Liberty, North Florida, Old Dominion, Pepperdine,
Tennessee, Texas A&M, USC-Upstate and Winthrop.
Men’s golf will play next at the two-day Rice Intercollegiate on Monday, Feb. 17 and Tuesday, Feb. 18 at Westwood Golf Club in Houston, Texas.
