After 11 years at the helm of the FAU men's golf program, Coach Sands will reture after the 2016-17 season
Senior (2010-11): Participated in the 2010 United States Public Links Championship...played in every tournament during the season for FAU...led the Owls in two tournaments and finished in the top-10 at the Mission Inn Intercollegiate and the Stetson/CFSC Invitational...shot a season low three round total of 217 at the Stetson/CFSC Invitational and shot a single round low of 68 at the Mission Inn Intercollegiate...was third on the team with a 75.00 scoring average per 18 holes.
Junior (2009-10): Recorded a 74.5 scoring average and participated in every tournament for FAU...matched his career-best round of 67 during the Stetson Tournament at Victoria Hill's Country Club...finished in a tie for sixth place to help the Owls capture the Bethune-Cookman Tournament title...earned his best overall finis of the season with a fifth place showing in a dual meet against Rutgers...third highest finisher during the Sun Belt Conference Championships.
Sophomore (2008-09):Emerged as one of the top golfers in the Sun Belt Conference...averaged three less strokes-per-round than a season ago...finished in a tie for 25th place during the Sun Belt Conference Championships...named the Sun Belt Conference Golfer of the Month for March...registered a top 10 finish against a nationally-ranked field at the Inaugural FAU Spring Break Championship...won dual meets with Niagara University with a score of 68 and Rutgers University (70)...helped FAU capture the Treasure Coast Classic title with rounds of 67 and 70...finished in the top 15 in three of the four fall tournaments...tallied a fifth place effort at the Stetson Invitational and shot a round of 70 during the Nova Southeastern Shark Invite at the PGA National Course.
Freshman (2007-08):Averaged 75.5 per round for 10 rounds with 755 total strokes...3rd place was best finish of the season at Ocean Breeze...had two other top ten finishes (tied 7th at Bear Lakes and 6th at Ocean Breeze Country Club).
High School:Played for Bill Joyner at Lakeland Senior High School in Lakeland, FL...9-hole scoring average of 36.1...member of National Honor Society...graduated with a 4.1 grade-point average.
Personal:Finance major...born Apr. 17, 1989, in West Palm Beach, FL...son of Marty and Mary McHugh...professional goal is to earn B.S. in either civil or mechanical engineering.
