Question from Joy
Hello Coach,
As always, I want to start out by saying youíre a great coach and Iím a big fan. I have high hopes for this season, since I think breakout wins over Texas and Michigan State will continue to launch us higher in the national scene, but something that seemed to affect us a lot last year is rushing quarterbacks Ė well, any team that ran the ball at all, really.

Are you confident that this problem is resolved for this season due to the incoming recruiting class and last yearís freshman class no longer being redshirted? Iíd like to see our highly-touted freshman guys like Pattee and Morgan (ESPECIALLY Your highness Morgan) get in there and shut down running teams but Iím not the Coach so Iíll trust your judgment.

Go Owls. Beat Texas

Response from Head Coach Howard Schnellenberger
While presumptions of wins over Texas and Michigan State are premature and counter productive, we started on the development of the 2008 team well before the New Orleans and the R&L Carrier Bowl. With the two weeks prior to making the trip there are many areas offensively, defensively, and on special teams that a we could improve. Improvement in these areas will be essential for us to duplicate what we did in 07.

For the first time in our short history, we will be preseason favorites over most of our schedule. Fighting the battle from this position will take total concentration from the top, which includes the Universityís President, the Board of Trustees, Faculty, Staff and students, but primarily our coaching staff and players.

Be confident in knowing we have enough talent on our team to meet this growth need. No incoming freshman and virtually no redshirt freshman will be the saviors of any part of our team. Like you, we look forward to the unfolding of the 2008 season.

Question from Eric
Hey Coach,
I was reading the blog. I would like to walk on to the team. When is the exact date for tryouts? What drill will we be doing so I know if I have tot bring my track cleats and football cleats.
Thanks Eric

Response from Head Coach Howard Schnellenberger
To answer your question, I will address it to all that would be or are fulltime 2008 Florida Atlantic students.
Things to Do
Be a fulltime FAU student
Get a physical from your high schoolís team doctor or a family doctor
Make sure you are covered by medical insurance
Then and only then, come to the Tom Oxley Center
Pick up a tryout application form. Fill it out and return.
You will then be advised the tryout dates.

Question from Alex
IíM A HARD WORKING YOUNG MAN. AND I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO PLAY WITH YOU AND THE TEAM FOR THE FOLLOWING SEASON. I DO HAVE STATS AND A HIGHLIGHT TAPE. I AM FROM SOUTH CAROLINA. THE SCHOOL IS 4A AND PLAYS IN THE BIG 16 OF SOUTH CAROLINA. ALL I ASK IS FOR A CHANCE. THANK YOU

Response from Head Coach Howard Schnellenberger
Alex,
Give me the latitude to make this a general statement.

Make sure you have enrolled with the NCAA Clearinghouse and that you meet the necessary NCAA academic and institution requirements.

That being done, be sure to forward your best highlight tape and one game film to our office: Attention Kurt Van Valkenburgh.

Once we are in receipt of your tape, we will be in a position to let you know that you should be playing at the I-A, I-AA, or below levels. We will advise you, upon request or we will request further information we would need.

Thank you for your interest
