Nov. 29, 2011
Boca Raton, FL - Three record-setting performances by running back Alfred Morris has earned Florida Atlantic University's Student-Athlete of the Week Award. He set single-game records for carries, yards and touchdowns in helping the Owls to their first victory of the season, a triumph over UAB last Saturday at the new on-campus football stadium.
The senior from Pensacola scored four rushing touchdowns with his nine-yard scamper late in the fourth quarter to seal the victory. He rushed for 198 yards on 38 carries against the Blazers. That helped him surpass the 1,000-yard barrier for the second time in his career and became the fourth 1,000-yard rusher under Head Coach Howard Schnellenberger. Morris is the first player to accomplish the feat twice during Schnellenberger's legendary career.
Morris and 16 other seniors will play their final game on Saturday, December 3, beginning at 4 p.m. against the University of Louisiana-Monroe in a Sun Belt Conference game. The contest will mark the finale in Schnellenberger's 52-year coaching career. He is the only football coach in FAU history.
In other sports, the men's basketball team travels to the University of Kansas on Wednesday, November 30.
The men's and women's swimming and diving teams travel to Atlanta to participate in the Nationals LMC meet, beginning on Thursday, December 1. The event will conclude on Sunday, December 4.
