BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University’s Christian Milstead has been named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week.

Milstead recorded two interceptions in the Southern Miss contest last Saturday, including on that he returned for a touchdown in the Owls’ 41-7 victory. The TD return was the first of his career.

Milstead had primarily played the safety position in 2013 but due to injuries the senior anchored one of the cornerback spots on Saturday. On the opposite side is D’Joun Smith, who is listed No. 2 nationally in interceptions, so much of the action moved to Milstead’s side of the field. He proved just as efficient at shutting down the passing game with two interceptions on Saturday. His first, which was caught while on the ground, was at the FAU six-yard line and shutdown USM’s first scoring threat. Just before the half, Milstead grabbed his second of the game and returned it 61 yards, for his first career pick-six, which iced the game for the Owls sending them into the half up 27-0. He was also credited with a solo tackle.

He also earned College Football Performance Awards C-USA honor for Week 12.

FAU will host New Mexico State on Saturday, Nov. 23 with kickoff scheduled for 3:05 p.m. Live streaming and stats will be available at www.fausports.com
