The Florida Atlantic University football team began its third full week of practice and second week of full contact drills Monday afternoon at the Tom Oxley Practice Field in Boca Raton. The team is gearing up for its first scrimmage, just 12 days away, on September 23.
"I think the Sunday rest period was good for the team," said FAU head coach Howard Schnellenberger. "They seemed to be a little bit more spirited than they were the last time out. We didn't lose anybody over the weekend which is always a good sign."
The squad continues to total 125 players, including kickers. All had Sunday off before resuming week three of practice.
"We're really jsut going through the continuing teaching phase of the development of the team," said Schnellenberger. "We put in a couple of new plays each day and then they come out and don't know how tow run them. Then we review the ones we ran the day before so they can run those , and now we've got the new ones and we can't run those very well. But, that's just the way it goes when everything is new."
Overall, Schnellenberger says the defense continues to look good, but he also says there's a reason for that.
All the defense looks good because the offense is so basic right now," he said. "And we're basic on defense too, but on defense, a tie you win where on offense, a tie you lose."
