Florida Atlantic University's first official football practice will be delayed a day after heavy rain forced the inaugural team to go through an indoor walk-through on a day scheduled to be the first practice at the Tom Oxley Practice Field.
"We bowed to a higher power today," said FAU head coach Howard Schnellenberger. "Today was supposed to be our inaugural practice on the Tom Oxley Practice Field, but an unexpected storm hit us and forced us to go inside."
As many as 165 players, both scholarship and walk-ons, gathered for over an hour indoors to go through a series of walk-throughs in preparation for the team's first practice outdoors.
"We utilized the opportunity to have a walk-through session which enabled us to cover a lot of things that we would have had to cover on the field," said Schnellenberger. "It will serve to get us prepared for the official first practice which will take place on Thursday."
"Players contained their enthusiasm long enough to benefit from the walk-through," added Schnellenberger. "It was obvious they are bursting at the seams to get on the field tomorrow."
FAU is scheduled to practice at the Tom Oxley Practice Field Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 pm.
