BOCA RATON, FL -
Florida Atlantic University's head coach Howard Schnellenberger met with over 100 students, Thursday night, as the second wave of walk-ons gathered for an orientation meting in preparation for their attempt to make the FAU football team.
Players came from virtually every state east of the Mississippi River and at least three are attending FAU on student visas from Brazil, Columbia, and Trinidad. This group added to the first group of walk-ons that were in attendance when varsity athletes met earlier this week. That pushes the total of walk-ons to over 150.
"I'm not surprised by the turnout, " said Schnellenberger. "I'm pleased that so many young men are interested in our program. I think this will certify what I've always said, there is a great need for another football team in South Florida."
FAU begins practice at the Tom Oxley Practice Field, Monday afternoon at FAU Boca Raton campus.
