Emslie, a freshman midfielder, tallied the first FAU hat trick in seven seasons as she scored the game-winning goal with just over two minutes left in regulation, lifting the Owls past UAB on Sunday, 4-3. After the Scotland native tallied a pair of goals in the first half (a successful penalty kick in the 21st minute and a shot from 10 yards out in the 41st minute), she saved her best for last, with her third goal coming on a header to the lower right corner of the net to give the Owls the lead. She had a game-high seven shots, including four shots on goal. The hat trick marked the first for FAU since Tessa McGarrity accomplished the feat in 2006 against Troy, and the freshman leads the Owls with four goals on the season.
Fortner drew his second start at running back of the young season and turned it into a career night against No. 7 University of Georgia. The junior had 14 carries for 81 yards, an average of 5.8 yards per carry. On the Owls' third drive of the game, down seven, Fortner was given the ball on 1st-and-10 on the Bulldog 43. He found a crease, squirted through untouched and then outran his defenders for the 43-yard score to even the game at 7-7 with 2:30 remaining in the opening quarter. The Miami native added two catches for 21 yards to accumulate a total of 102 all-purpose yards.
