Florida Atlantic University's football team broke out new uniforms and practiced in front of Sun Belt Conference officials after nearly two full days off, Sunday night behind the Tom Oxley Athletic Center.
With new Adidas practice jerseys, including green for the team's four quarterbacks, the Owls had early team drills in front of a full officiating crew. Stephen Curtis took the first snaps, followed by Graham Wilbert. The two, respectively, handed off to Damian Fortner and Martese Jackson for gains. Wilbert had the first completion, to tight end Alex Deleon, and also hooked up with Fortner for long yardage down the sideline. When Melvin German III went under center, his pitch to Jonathan Wallace got nearly a first down.
On the other side of the ball, Karl James had a quarterback rush causing an incompletion, while defensive backs Christian Milstead and Cre'von Leblanc had fine plays, Milstead with a strip and takeaway, and LeBlanc with a diving breakup of a pass.
Late in the dusk, German completed two passes into the end zone in the span of three snaps during 7-on-7 drills. The first was a tight completion over the middle to fellow newcomer Jenson Stoshak, the second a perfect fade pass to the back corner to Robert Lohnes.
