BOCA RATON, Fla. - With three weeks until kickoff of the 2014 campaign, the Florida Atlantic University football team held a full-speed scrimmage at FAU Stadium Saturday morning.
"We wanted to make sure we went out full-force," FAU Head Coach Charlie Partridge said. "From an execution standpoint, there were big plays on both sides of the ball. There were some times when the defense was in a dominate state of mind and vice versa with the offense."
Saturday marked the second practice of the fall at the stadium, giving the Owls a taste of the conditions they'll face in their five home games of the season.
"We had a two penalties in the red zone that led to points being taken off the board, so those are things that we have to learn from and eliminate to give us a chance to be an elite type of team," Partridge said. "I'm anxious to us grow over the next three weeks as we get ready for Nebraska."
Jaquez Johnson and Greg Hankerson were each efficient at the quarterback position, giving Partridge confidence in each of their abilities. Receivers Lucky Whitehead and William Dukes as well as running backs Jay Warren and Martese Jackson also made big plays for the offense.
Freshman kicker Landon Scheer was perfect on the day in field goal attempts when the defense was able to stop the offensive drives.
"I'm anxious to see [the atmosphere at FAU Stadium] on gameday," Partridge said. "I'm excited to get big crowds here."
The Owls return to practice on Monday in their third and final two-a-day before resuming a regular practice schedule.
