FAU Football Has First Two-A-Day Under Coach Pelini

Aug. 8, 2012

Florida Atlantic University's football team had their first two-a-day practice of the camp season on Wednesday, as opening night draws closer.

In the 9:30 a.m. morning session, after individual and situational drills, tight end Alex Deleon made a nice diving catch of a pass thrown by quarterback Graham Wilbert. Getting a couple of long runs were Jonathan Wallace and Damian Fortner, while defensive end Martin Wright had a big hit in the backfield. Freshman Melvin German III had a keeper than saw him go untouched for almost 25 yards.

The team returned to the field for the 6:30 evening portion, which featured a beautifully thrown pass from Wilbert to Marcus Cunningham, 50 yards into the end zone. Fortner had another run of first down yardage, as did quarterback Stephen Curtis, calling his own number. Defensively, linemen Brandin Bryant and David Baptiste combined on a tackle-for-loss, linebacker Andrae Kirk had one of his own, and defensive back Christian Milstead made a leaping interception.

It will be a morning practice only on Thursday, beginning at 9:30 a.m., before another two-a-day on Friday. Football season and single game tickets are on sale and can be purchased through Ticketmaster or by calling 1-866-FAU-Owls. FAU will open the 2012 campaign, Friday, August 31 in its new on-campus stadium versus Wagner College. Practices are closed to the general public and media.
