Florida Atlantic University’s football team began their first night practice at 6:30 p.m. and showed a renewed sense of energy and enthusiasm.
In 7-on-7 drills, quarterback Stephen Curtis had a long keeper gain, and running backs Damian Fortner, Martese Jackson and Travis Jones each had long runs of positive yardage. Graham Wilbert had the day’s prettiest pass, threading the sideline to running back Javaris Giles behind the defense. Linebacker Randell Johnson had a big hit in full drills, making a tackle in the backfield. Later, Wilbert had another long completion, this one to Marcus Cunningham, before keeping one himself for another gain. Jackson and Tony Moore each added two more big runs to close out the practice as darkness set in.
The Owls will have Monday off, and have a Tuesday practice starting at 9:30 a.m. The first two-a-day session will take place on Wednesday. Season and single game tickets are on sale and can be purchased through Ticketmaster or by calling 1-866-FAU-Owls. FAU will open the 2012 campaign, Friday, August 31 in its new on-campus stadium versus Wagner College. Practices are closed to the general public and media.
