After beginning their first three camp practices at 6:30 a.m., Florida Atlantic University’s football team held their Saturday morning workout starting just before 10 a.m. and working well past noon.
Long runs were the name of the game on Saturday. With all four quarterbacks – Graham Wilbert, Stephen Curtis, Nick Bracewell and Melvin German III – alternating under center, it was running backs Travis Jones, Jonathan Wallace and Damian Fortner breaking free for long gains. Wilbert connected with junior wide receiver Paul Moore with the day’s longest pass play, a short route that saw Moore break an early attempt at a tackle. Senior linebacker Martin Wright had the biggest hit of the morning, taking down a runner in the backfield for a punishing tackle-for-loss.
The Owls will have their first night practice beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, before having their first off-day on Monday. Season and single game tickets are on sale and can be purchased through Ticketmaster or by calling 1-866-FAU-Owls. FAU will open the 2012 campaign, Friday, August 31 in its new on-campus stadium versus Wagner College. Practices are closed to the general public and media.
