Owls Soar on Pre-Season Team

Boca Raton, FL - Jervonte Jackson will suit up with Florida Atlantic University's football team, September 2 at Clemson, as a redshirt sophomore who has earned a spot on three preseason teams. He was one of three Owls that has garnered preseason honors to date.

"All of us at Florida Atlantic are proud of Jervonte, Nello and DiIvory," said FAU head coach Howard Schnellenberger. "They will represent us well during the course of the season. It is always great to be recognized during preseason."

Jackson earned a spot on the 2006 Sporting News All-Sun Belt Team after the 6-3, 280 pound sophomore ended his redshirt freshman campaign with 11 games under his belt, 18 unassisted tackles, and 20 combos for 38 total tackles. The defensive tackle from Opa Locka, FL (North Miami Beach HS), also had four tackles for a loss of three yards, including one sack for a loss of two yards.

Blue Ribbon Magazine has also announced its selections which predict FAU to finish no. 7 in league play. Jackson was listed as one of the top-four Sun Belt defensive linemen.

CollegeFootballNews.com recognized FAU offensive lineman Nello Faulk on its first team. Faulk, a 6-7, 270 pound senior from Tampa, FL (Robinson HS), will be the eldest member on an offensive line that accumulated 110 games played, 70 starts and approximately 5,462 snaps in the last three seasons. Faulk is projected to be a four year starter and started as a true freshman in 2003, a season that saw the Owls post a 9-3 record and advance to the NCAA semifinal championship game.

Running back DiIvory Edgecomb earned a spot on the All-Sun Belt Second-Team. Edgecomb, a 5-10, 185 pound running back from Miami, FL (American Heritage HS), tallied 295 yards in 89 carries while playing in all 11 games.

Jackson was also listed All-Sun Belt preseason second team by CollegeFootball News.com.

While the Owls open September 2 at Clemson, the schedule will continue to challenge the young program with games slated at Kansas State (9/9), at Oklahoma State (9/16), at South Carolina (9/23) and then the Sun Belt opener at Louisiana-Monroe (9/30). FAU is scheduled to host it first home game October 12 when the Owls host Southern Utah at Lockhart.
