BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University senior football player Braden Lyons has been named to the Rimington Trophy 2014 Spring Watch List. The Rimington Trophy annually honors the Most Outstanding Center in NCAA Division I-A College Football. The Spring Watch List includes the nation's top-64 collegiate players at the center position.
Lyons, a sociology major, started every game for the Owls in 2013 at right tackle and is moving to the center position in 2014. As part of the offensive line that enabled FAU to shatter its season-high rushing record, Lyons received the offensive game ball honors for the game at East Carolina University and against Tulane University.
"Braden Lyons will play a new position, and at center he is really the quarterback of the offensive line," said Charlie Partridge, FAU's head football coach. "He works hard to make sure those around him know what to do and ensure they are working up to a high level."
The winner of the Rimington Trophy is awarded by determining the consensus All-American center pick from three existing All-America Teams. The center with the most first-team votes will be determined the winner. The winner will be recognized at the Rimington Trophy Presentation at the Rococo Theatre in Lincoln, Neb. on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015. The Rimington Trophy is a member of the National College Football Awards Association, which encompasses the most prestigious awards in college football.
