BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's athletics department will continue its efforts to promote literacy for children as student-athletes from the football team will participate in class readings at Pine Jog Elementary, 6315 Summit Blvd, West Palm Beach, FL, Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 8:30 a.m.
The literacy program is sponsored by the 2nd & 7 Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides free books and positive role models for kids.
Shalom Ogbonda, Mike Marsaille, Travis Jones and Damian Fortner will read a book to students followed by a discussion stressing the importance of reading, academic achievement, making good decisions and how to resist peer pressure. Each student will receive a free book to practice reading on their own.
The event is sponsored by the 2nd and 7 Foundation, which was started by former Ohio State University football players Mike Vrabel, Luke Fickell and Ryan Miller. The purpose of the foundation is to promote literacy and provide positive role models to young children. FAU is one of seven schools that participate in the program nationwide.
