BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's 2013 football season schedule has been released along with the corresponding themes for each game.
"Each home game provides the opportunity to engage and celebrate our university and local community," said John Semeraro. "An array of promotions and activities will be offered every theme day as we work to create a premier game day experience that caters to all Owl supporters."
The 2013 FAU football game day experience will provide fans an environment that is family friendly, affordable, and will offer an opportunity to see the first year of Conference USA football for the University.
The Owls will open 2013 with three-consecutive road games; however, two are within driving distance for the FAU faithful, with the season opener on Friday, Aug. 30 at Sun Life Stadium against the University of Miami and a match-up against USF at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa on Saturday, Sept. 14. FAU will play host to Middle Tennessee State University, also making the move from the Sun Belt Conference to C-USA in 2013, on Saturday, Sept. 21. The game versus MTSU will be the season home opener, and the first C-USA home contest in FAU Stadium. In celebration, the game will serve as FAU Pride Day. FAU students, faculty and alumni will be encouraged to wear FAU colors and to celebrate the University.
The Owls then will play two away games before returning to FAU Stadium for a match with Marshall University on Saturday, Oct. 12. This game also is Family Weekend and Heroes Day, as the FAU community will honor those who make a difference in the lives of its student-athletes and the team will help promote cancer awareness.
FAU will travel to Auburn University on Saturday, Oct. 26 before returning home to play host to conference-member Tulane University on Saturday, Nov, 2 for Homecoming weekend. The weeklong festivities will culminate with Saturday's game and the naming of the 2013 Homecoming king and queen. Kid's Fest also will be held in conjunction with Homecoming weekend.
Following a C-USA match-up versus Southern Miss in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, the Owls will honor the men and women who have served the United States for Military Appreciation Day when FAU plays host to New Mexico State University on Saturday, Nov. 23.
The Owls will conclude its season, as host to in-state and league rival FIU for the 12th annual Shula Bowl, Friday, November 29. The 2013 Shula Bowl game will honor FAU's seniors, will be billed as "Red Out" and also will serve as Fan Appreciation Day. Game day promotions and special events will be announced throughout the summer. Game times will be dependent upon television schedules and will be announced a minimum of 12 days prior to the game. Season ticket packages are on sale and can be purchased by visiting ticketmaster.com, www.fausports.com or by calling 1-866-FAU-Owls.
