BOCA RATON, Fla. -
Florida sunshine and a cool breeze greeted Florida Atlantic University’s football team Thursday morning as the Owls worked through two hours of work and install under the direction of their new coaching staff.
- In the first team session, the offense focused on the run game. Redshirt junior quarterback Jason Driskel opened the session with a 10-yard pass to redshirt senior Kalib Woods. De’Andre Johnson followed with a five-yard keeper on the next play and did the same thing a few plays later. Redshirt sophomore Kerrith Whyte ran for five as did “Buddy” Gregory Howell, Jr. Redshirt freshman Steven Frank also saw time under center.
- The Owls moved to 7-on-7 where again the focus was on the running backs’ integration into the passing game. Driskel hit redshirt senior Marcus Clark and Howell. Sophomore receivers John Mitchell and James Brunson also made catches while Mitchell had a leaping effort to tip the ball, then caught it as he came back down to the ground. Johnson found Brunson in the end zone to end the session.
- The second team portion saw Johnson use his legs for a big gain, then “Motor” Devin Singletary broke free for a 75-yard run. Clark followed, shortly thereafter with a run down the opposite sideline. Whyte then moved the chains on third down
Head Coach Lane Kiffin
